Sarah Patterson has practiced law for over 25 years, and represented her first Social Security disability claimant in 1983. Since then,
she has represented thousands of claimants in twelve states, focusing her
practice exclusively on Social Security disability and SSI cases,
now specializing in claims involving HIV and AIDS.
She is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Representatives,
and served as the elected board representative of the Ninth Federal Judicial
Circuit to that organization. She has served on many nonprofit boards,
and was an elected member of the Board of Governors of the Kentucky
Bar Association. Sarah began her career working for Legal Services
in Louisville, KY after graduating from the University of Louisville School
of Law and Marquette University.
In 1990, Sarah Patterson relocated to San Francisco, where she was the
founding partner of Patterson & McCombs, a firm dedicated to representing
people with Social Security and SSI claims and appeals. In 1998
she went to Portland to do a year of volunteer work at the Cascade AIDS
Project, where she coordinated the legal clinic. Ms. Patterson has
practiced Social Security disability law in California, Oregon, Washington,
Utah, Arizona, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Nevada, Montana, Colorado
